Who we are
San Diego Food Not Lawns is a food justice organization committed to enlightening people about the problems with our food system and working to address those problems with creative solutions.
What we do
We run Farmer on the Block, a movie (documentary) series, a monthly potluck with guest speakers, gleaning programs and seed swaps. We also help plan the Cultivating Food Justice Conference, which is one of the largest food justice conferences in California. Learn more about each of our programs. Learn about the 1 in 10 in 2010 Coalition which we participate in.
What's next
We just completed the 2010 Cultivating Food Justice Conference. We're posting video, photos and other media and information from the conference. We'll be debriefing from the conference shortly and making notes about how to make the conference even better in 2011. If you'd like to participate in the debrief process, contact us. The month of May will be focused on our new gleaning program, Harvesting San Diego. We'll also be launching Farmer on the Block in June so we're looking for people with large gardens who would like to sell some of their produce.
How you can help
We're always looking for people interested in getting to work fixing the food system. If you're ready to get involved, the first step is to come to one of our social potlucks. Check the calendar for the next potluck. Talk to one of the core members at the potluck about getting involved and what you're really interested in (whether it's getting involved with an existing program or starting a new program). Then come to a core meeting and meet the rest of the core team. We have no elected leaders or hierarchy. Anyone that's ready to spend some time working with us is welcome to become a core member.

We're always adding to our online resources of recommended books, seed companies and general information.
